The 'Tithi Bhojan', proposed by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development, Government of India, is considered to be an excellent step to provide nutritious food to children with a PM Poshan scheme. It is desirable that people of the community become involved in understanding the responsibility of the government to understand their accountability towards the school.
Tithi Bhojan includes nutritious and healthy food that is provided to the children through the Community to celebrate their special occasions such as birthdays of family members, anniversaries of family members, and many other occasions with school children with at-most joy & happiness.
In the above context, Shri. Praful Patel, Hon’ble Administrator, U.T. of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu introduced the practice of Tithi Bhojan in each Primary & Upper Primary Government School of D&NH since 2017. Every month, the Tithi Bhojan is provided to the children through community participation donors/sponsors across the Schools in Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
At present the Department has arranged 2926 Donors/ Sponsors who shall be providing Tithi Bhojan across 266 Government and Local body schools of Dadra & Nagar Haveli for the FY 2023-2024.
The CCEA cleared the PM POSHAN (POshan SHAkti Nirman) Scheme for providing one hot cooked meal in Government and Government-aided schools from 2021-22 to 2025-26, earlier known as ‘National Programme for Mid-Day Meal in Schools’ popularly known as Mid-Day Meal Scheme. This is a Centrally-Sponsored Scheme that covers all school children studying in Classes I-VIII in Government, Government-Aided Schools.
The scheme covers about 11.80 crore children studying in 11.20 lakh schools across the country. During 2020-21, the Government of India invested more than Rs 24,400 crore in the scheme, including the cost of about Rs 11,500 crore on food grains.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister has approved the continuation of the national scheme of PM POSHAN in Schools for the five-year period 2021-22 to 2025-26 with the financial outlay of Rs 54061.73 crores from the Central Government and Rs 31733.17 crore from State Governments & UT administrations. Central Government will also bear the additional cost of about Rs 45000 crore on food grains. Therefore, the total scheme budget will amount to Rs 130794.90 crore.
