Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of the Mid-Day Meal scheme, stating that its objectives can only be achieved through a spirit of service.
He stressed the need to transform this scheme into a mass movement so that all sections of society actively participate in it.
The Prime Minister suggested appointing 'Nutrition Monitors' in classrooms and issuing 'Nutrition Cards,' similar to report cards, to raise awareness about nutrition among children.
He also stated that the primary goals of this scheme are to eliminate hunger and malnutrition, increase school enrollment and attendance, improve social integration among different communities, and provide employment opportunities, especially for women at the grassroots level.
The Prime Minister appealed for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of this scheme, thereby guaranteeing the holistic development of the country's future—its children.
The Prime Minister highlighted the societal value of the Mid-Day Meal scheme in combating malnutrition. He proposed involving two elderly members from villages to serve and eat meals with children, fostering a sense of belonging and food hygiene among students.
PM Modi lauded teachers for being exemplary in inculcating hygiene. He narrated the story of a teacher from a tribal area in Gujarat who stitched handkerchiefs for her students from her old saris. This teacher would take the handkerchiefs home, wash them, and bring them back the next day, reinforcing the value of personal cleanliness.
PM Modi reiterated the immense responsibility of teachers in shaping the future generation. Through their innovative efforts and dedication, teachers are not just educators but also role models for values such as hygiene, nutrition, and fitness. He urged the teaching community to continue their invaluable contribution to nation-building.
